Rob: “If you’re happy and you know it, take a dump.”
Xander: “AMEN!”
Living with boys is never boring.
Here is something that had never happened before today:
Xander, walking into the front door of the church, to attend a service and sit in a pew… with his father!
Either Xander is in the nursery, Rob is on stage, or both. Never before have the 4 of us actually attended church together.
This morning, a man came forward to give his life to Christ. Because his job would have him on the road soon, and even though evening services tonight were canceled, we had a special service at 4pm. It would be a short service so we decided to take the kids with us. It was so awesome to watch Rob explain to Xander what baptism was, and to see the expression on my son’s face as he watched intently.
A conversation on the drive home:
Rob: Xander, what did we see at church today?
Xander: Pastor Jason baptized that guy.
Rob: Why did he get baptized?
Xander: He came to Jesus.
We are in a full-blown Lego phase here. Xander will build for hours, and his constructions actually look like what he says they are.
He figured out symmetry all on his own, which makes his neurotic mother very happy. For example: ![]()

The best projects are done with Daddy. Together they build all kinds of towers, vehicles, and their favorite Star Wars ships.
Complete with a pilot and windshield!
Darth Vader’s TIE:
Last night, Rob built Xander a Y-wing. As with most of the creations his dad makes, Xander decided to keep it intact during the bedtime cleanup. We put the ship on his headboard shelf, as usual. At about 11pm, I heard some crying coming from Xander’s bedroom. I opened the door and turned on the light to see a pile of Lego bricks laying on the bed next to the saddest little boy I’d ever seen. He kept asking, “Daddy fix it?” But Rob was at the gym at the time so I had to put the bricks back in the tub, comfort Xander, and put him back to bed. When Rob got home I told him the story.
This morning when I woke Xander up for church, this was on the headboard. His father had quietly rebuilt the ship at 1am, knowing how much it meant to him:
Xander’s face upon seeing it was priceless.
He has the best dad in the world.
Happy Father’s Day to you!
We love the way you have been involved in our lives, even before we were born.![]()

You have loved us from day one.
You play with us.
You show us new things.
And most of all, you love us. We love you, too!
Love,
Xander and Arya

My favorite day of the week is Friday, Rob’s day off. It’s a good chance to do things as a family because the malls and parks aren’t packed with the weekend crowd. Yesterday we spent the afternoon at Craighead Forest Park. It has one of the best playgrounds I’ve ever seen, and because all the older kids are still in school, Xander was free to explore.
This weekend, Rob built Xander a playground. He had helpers willing to come, but after realizing that all they would be doing was watching him read instructions, he decided to see if he would be able to do it by himself. He did a great job!
He spent Friday sorting and counting all the wood boards, and reading the instruction booklet. Saturday was spent making sure the frames for the fort and the swings were perfectly aligned. Xander and his Step2 power drill helped out.
He took the day off on Sunday to celebrate the 4th of July, then completed the set on Monday afternoon.
He finished the fort and slide side of the set just in time for Xander to wake up from his nap.
Robots first.
The best part?
Rob put the playground in just the perfect place where I can see it in its entirety out of all the back windows!
We had a few spare minutes in the student ministry area of the church this morning so Rob, Xander, and I had an impromptu jam session. Xander loves drum sets. He gets very upset whenever we make him leave. This following video was taken from a much longer clip with the boys messing around. In the clip, they eventually settle on Satch Boogie. I think Xander has a promising career ahead of him.
